Overview

The opening room is small, quiet and easy to dismiss as a tutorial box. It is also where the level establishes everything you need: the objective, the existence of the creature, and the fact that the exit is boarded rather than locked. This page covers what is in the room, how to get out of it, and the small decisions in the first minute that shape the rest of the run.

Area:Spawn Room
Exit:Boarded Door
Interaction:Hold E

The Opening Minute

This recording starts at the sealed chamber and shows the pry interaction in full. Watching it once removes the most common early confusion, which is whether the boarded door is interactive at all.

Getting Out of the Spawn Room

There is only one route out of the chamber, and it is shorter than most players expect. These steps cover it in order.

Do not skip the slides. They are the only place the level states the objective in words.

1

Read the tutorial slides

They introduce the creature, restate the four-keys-and-one-code objective and mention the optional Radar gamepass.

2

Find the boarded doorway

Look for the door marked DO NOT ENTER. The sign is a hint about the exit, not a warning to obey.

3

Trigger the pry prompt

Stand close to the boards until the interaction prompt appears. Approaching too far away produces nothing.

4

Hold E until the planks fall

The interaction is a held input rather than a tap, so keep the button down until the boards come away completely.

5

Take the stairs down

Beyond the door a stairwell descends into the corridor network where the run properly begins.

If the prompt never appears, you are not close enough to the boards. Step directly up to the door rather than approaching it from an angle.

What the Spawn Room Teaches

The chamber is a compressed introduction to the systems the rest of the level relies on. Each element has a purpose beyond decoration.

The Objective

Four keys and one code, stated plainly so you know what the level expects from you.

The Threat

The creature is introduced here so its first appearance in the corridors is not a surprise.

Held Interactions

Prying the boards teaches the hold mechanic every container later uses.

Forced Exits

The door is sealed by boards rather than locked, so progress opens it rather than an item.

Silence as Tone

The near-total quiet establishes that audio is information rather than background.

The Radar Gamepass

Mentioned in the slides as an optional aid, making clear what is purchasable and what is not.

The held interaction learned here applies to every locker, cabinet and crate in the level. A quick tap will not open them.

Why the Exit Is Boarded

The door being boarded rather than locked is a deliberate framing choice. A locked door implies a key exists somewhere, which would send players hunting for an item that does not exist in the opening room.

Boards imply effort instead. The prompt is physical, the action takes a moment, and the result is the first real progress of the run. It also teaches the interaction language the rest of the level reuses without explaining it again.

The DO NOT ENTER sign is part of the same framing. It reads as a warning, and treating it as an instruction to obey is a small trap that costs players a minute of confused searching.

First Minute Checklist

Get these done before you descend. Each one takes seconds and prevents a specific early mistake.

TaskWhy It MattersCost of Skipping
Read the slidesStates the objective and the threatYou search without knowing the goal
Find the marked doorIt is the only exit from the roomSeveral minutes of searching walls
Use the held interactionSame mechanic applies to all containersYou tap crates and think they are empty
Check your movement speedWalking is the quiet defaultYou sprint into the corridor network
Note the stairwellIt is the entry to the loopYou lose the reference point for the layout
Once you are downstairs, the map guide explains how the corridor loop is arranged.

Mistakes Made in the First Minute

These are the recurring errors in the opening room, all of them avoidable with a few seconds of attention.

  • Clicking through the tutorial slides without reading the objective.
  • Trying to open the boarded door with a single tap rather than a held press.
  • Sprinting immediately after the stairs, before learning the corridor layout.
  • Assuming the DO NOT ENTER sign means the door is not the exit.
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get out of the first room?

Find the boarded doorway marked DO NOT ENTER, stand close until the pry prompt appears, then hold E until the planks come away and the stairs are clear.

What does the DO NOT ENTER sign mean?

It marks the exit rather than warning you away from it. The boarded door is the only route out of the sealed chamber.

Do the tutorial slides matter?

Yes. They are the only place the objective is stated in words, and they also introduce the creature and mention the optional Radar gamepass.

Why is a tap not opening containers?

Because interactions in this game are held rather than tapped. The pry mechanic in the spawn room is teaching the input you need for every later container.

Is the first room part of the level or a lobby?

It is part of the level. The stairs lead directly into the corridor network that the four keys and the code are spread across, as covered in the map guide.

Can I skip the slides and still escape?

Yes, but you lose the only explicit statement of the objective. Most early confusion comes from players who clicked through without reading them.
